The backup server has just been installed. We need to do some initial configuration, set up a backup policy for the client's server, and do a backup.
| First, we need to get the "Instance ID" and public IP of the backup server. |
Go to https://IP_of_backup_server, key in the "Instance ID" of the backup server.
Click "next". |
| Tick the "I read... and accept..." box. Click "next". |
Key in desired username and password for logging into the backup server.
Click "next". |
Choose your timezone, "Create New Data Volume", "Use Instance's IAM Role"
"Disabled" for connecting via proxy. Click "next". |
Specify the capacity of the backup space that client has bought.
Click "next". (The backup server will create an EBS volume of the specified size.) |
| Key in your details, click "Configure System". |
| Configuration in progress... |
| Configuration done. |
Open a new browser window, go to https://IP_of_backup_server.
Key in the username and password that was specified earlier, and click "Sign in". |
We are now doing more configuration for backing up client's server.
Click "Accounts", "Add New Account". |
"Name" can be anything.
"Authentication" has to be "CPM Instance IAM Role".
"Scan Resources" is "Disabled".
Click "Add". |
Click "Home", "Schedules", "New Schedule".
(We are going to create a schedule for a backup policy/job to run.) |
"Name" can be anything but a descriptive name is recommended.
Set the details of the backup schedule, and click "Apply". |
| This is what it looks like when the schedule is created. |
We are now creating a new policy (which is something like a backup job).
Click "Home", "Policies", "New Policy". |
Specify a "name" for the policy. "Account" is the account that we have previously created.
"Generations" is number of copies of the backup to keep.
Select the "schedule" that we have previously created.
Click "Apply". |
| Now we get to choose which server to backup. Click "Backup Targets". |
| "Add Instances". |
| Select the client's server, click "Add Selected". |
| Click the "X" at the top right corner to close this box. |
| This is what it looks like that it is all set up. |
| Click "Home", "Backup Monitor" to see any backups in progress or backups that are done. |
| A successful backup. |
